Quentin

Quentin thinks in a very fragmented way, he rambles and one idea leads him to a seemingly unrelated idea. This method of thought makes him confusing to read, and it also makes it difficult to discern his level of intelligence. His unhealthy obsession with time and with caddy prove how fractured his mind has become. Both Quentin and Benjy are obsessed with Caddy, but while Benny's obsession is more about love and comfort, Quentin is obsessed with Caddy's sexuality and his obsession is tinged with lust.

In Quentins reminiscing on page 82, he has no obligations to the family, because they never accepted him. He is obligated only to Caddy, and even then he feels betrayed by her. Despite this, his family is his biggest concern, and he wants them, especially Caddy, to be safe. Quentins thoughts reside in college, for it was in college where his life was most troubling, and het was in college when Caddy got pregnant.

  1. I completely agree, Logan! Nice catch! The "stream of consciousness" way of writing is very hard to understand. I also agree that Quentin's only obligation in his family is to Caddy. Without her, I think it would be hard for him to ever come back to his family because he would be too busy with his obsessions and his family would definitely not be his top priority.

  3. I definitley agree that his unhealthy obsession with time and Caddy and confusing transitions show how fractured Quentin's mind has become. I hadn't thought about how he even feels betrayed by Caddy, the person who he is most concerned about.

  4. I agree with your statement "His unhealthy obsession with time and with caddy prove how fractured his mind has become." Personally, I think a lot of his issues stem from his family turmoil and his crazy obsession with Caddy. Although he just wants the best for Caddy, in the end his obsession gets the best of him. Nice blog Logan! It was very easy to read!

  5. I agree with your perception on Quentin's thought process and it's perplexing mechanics. He does have an unusual infatuation with the concept of time and how it affects everything around him.

Overall I enjoyed the book, but it was very confusing and convoluted. Falukners writing style made the book both confusing and more clear. I...
